NATIONAL PARK SERVICE HEADQUARTERS

The National Park Service Headquarters ( in 2000) was located on Broadway, in the main business district of Cheyenne, OK.  It was near the southwest corner of the 4-way stop intersection with highway 283.  This was the first stop before proceeding to the battlefield site to ask questions and obtain the brochure describing the interpretive trails.  The onsite park service interpreter, at that time Steve Black, had a wealth of knowledge about the battle and was willing to answer all questions, both  simple and detailed.  The office was open  all year, from 8 AM to 5 PM (Sunday 1-5 PM).  The battlefield site was open daily form sunrise to sunset.

Remember, when visiting the site, to follow all rules and regulations.  This areas is sacred to the Cheyenne people.  Stay on the marked trails.  Be careful, as many wild animals live here along with rattlesnakes and ticks.  Smoking, food, and horses are not permitted.  Bikes and pets are prohibited on the trails.  Use of metal detectors and other ground searching devices is prohibited.  Keep the picnic area clean.  The surrounding lands are privately owned and the owners do not take kindly to people wandering about without their consent.
